Around what age do BF babies space out feeding?

Just curious when it slows down. Ds is only 12 days old so I know 2-3 hours is normal. I'm just curious how old they usually are when it spaces out some more.

@taradise,

I'm not really sure but my lo is 4 months and eats every 2-4 hours and will give me one 5-6 hour stretch at night.

@taradise,

Depends upon your child and your milk storage capacity. Mine still eats line this St 10 weeks. My LC says that he will slow down by 6months, which seems a long ways away!

@taradise,

2-3 hrs at 12 days is already quite spaced out. DD is 4 months and she eats every 2 hours during the day. She has been sttn for a couple months though so I'm not complaining.

@taradise,

DD is 6 months and only nurses between naps. Works out to about 4 times a day, and then 2 night time feeds. If you were to go by hours, she goes anywhere from 3-6 between feeds, depending on her mood and where we are. This has been the schedule for about 2 months. She's very healthy and right on track for weight gain/milestones

@taradise,

My 8 week old makes me crazy sonetimes. He eats every 1.5-2 hrs in the day and 1.5-2.5 hrs every night :/ although tonight he ate at 3, then again at 4 :/ not fun. I know others with 8 week olds who eat every 3-4 hrs in the day and 4-6 hrs at night. Must be nice!

1-2 hours would be normal at your lo's age. My 10.5 month old goes about 3 hrs during the day. It does slow down and the major difference is that at 2 weeks, feeds take an hour. Now they take ten minutes. The length of feeds shortens as they become more efficient. Hang in there. It gets easier. You're doing a great job!

@taradise,

Some BF babies will nurse every 2-3 hours until they are weaned. My oldest was like that until 18 months. My 13 month old nurses every 3-4 hours during the day.

@taradise,

Mine is eight months and eats every 3-4 hours. But a feed takes well under ten mins.
